From what I have experienced over the years, the majority of those in the travel and tourism industry are ‘people pleasers.’ We are genuine in that we like and enjoy taking care of others. 

 

We are lucky that being in travel, we get to share the exciting and fun experiences with our clients, though right now, who’s looking after you? 

 

I’m hearing and seeing those that I love in this industry as well as others and myself, handling stressful situations differently. It is exhausting. So, I just want to check in and see how you are and what I can do for you. What do you need help with? 

 

Is it finding a light at the end of the tunnel? 

Is it helping to formulate a plan for the next 30 days? 

Is it to work with you on ideas to continue to communicate with your clients? 

 

How can I help you… 

 

Connect with why you are in travel and why you chose the path you did. This may answer some of the questions that you have been asking yourself. 

 

Connection. Stay connected with those that uplift you, give you purpose, make you smile and are there to listen to you through the good and ugly times. 

 

We are in this together and know I am also here for you.

Ros: Well, hello there Travel Agent Achievers, my friends in the travel industry.

 

You, I  know are like me, and now we've been experiencing this whole crisis for, I reckon at least the last two months. 

 

I know for my own business, I've been experiencing the coronavirus and the chaos that has gone on with it since January, when I had clients that could no longer go to China.  And one of my big clients was sending quite a lot of people so it had an impact on my business back then. 

 

Whereas now, two months, three months on, we are in a completely different place to where we would have never even expected this, even in January. 

 

But today I just want to check in with you. And I want to ask you how are you because I know this isn't easy and this is a really tough time and I'm seeing the grief process. Like for me I feel like it's the grief process. 

 

It's been the shock of what's happened to the disbelief and the chaos and then the anxiety and, and then the anger. And over the last week for me, I guess I felt a bit like a punching bag, really. 

 

Where clients were starting to get angry and it's nobody's fault. I can't help everybody get through their own process or be in the same place as myself. 





And so I wanted to reach out because I'm imagining that this is where you also are right now as well. Where the stress and how we have been in firefighting mode for the last couple of months. And definitely here in Australia the last month in the US as well, we're now seeing the stress and the anxiety come up and often depression comes with that as well. 

 

So how are you? And are you okay? I want to know, what are you doing to look after yourself? 

 

And I'm finding that my days now are so different to what they ever were before. And one of the important things that I know I need to remember on a daily basis and I'm encouraging you to as well is that you need to take care of yourself. Self care right now is really important. 

 

Whether that's exercising or taking your dog for a walk or playing outside if you can with a family member or your children, and just really taking the opportunity to look after yourself, because headaches, tiredness, your sleepless nights, the stress and the anxiety, you may be overeating or not eating at all, it will have an impact on your body. 

 

And I want you to take care of yourself because you are going to get through this. And yes, we've been rocked as an industry and our inherent gut feel and I know for me as it is for you is that you may not like the term but we're people pleasers, right? 

 

We like to be able to take care of others and we've been showing and educating and encouraging our clients to explore this beautiful world for many, many years. And to have someone come back to us that may not be so happy can be really devastating. 

 

So as a people pleaser, and somebody who likes to look after others, I want you to remember to take care of yourself. It's really, really important right now. 

 

Your business, you may have felt has just disappeared from underneath you and you don't even know how to pick up or how to move forward or what strategies do you need to use right now. 

 

But that's not important in today's moment. Today's moment is about you and taking care of yourself. Because tomorrow, you can pick up tomorrow, you can take that one little piece of information and do something nice for somebody else. 

 

Whether that is then refining your purpose or forming your connections again, our clients do want to hear from us. They want to know that you're okay. They care about you as well. 




And there are little things that you can do to ensure that you stay connected with them. I still don't think it's the right time to be talking about travel in this climate that we're in. I still don't think it's, you know, appropriate that we're speaking about specials that may happen in six, twelve, 18 months time. But that's my personal opinion. 

 

I know for my clients, that I need to be of service, and I need to provide value. And at times like this, when it's really tough, we all need to learn to smile again, and we will. 

 

But there are things that you can do in order to bring that joy into other people's life where you may not have been feeling it so much yourself. But each day, you can do something to make a difference in somebody else's life again. 

 

So I'm reaching out to say I'm thinking of you, you are not alone. You will get through this. And I'd love for you to come on this journey together with me because you will be stronger and now is an opportunity for us to really rally together and work on some different tools to help your business in the long run.
